Founded in 1919 by Gordon Francis and Arthur Barnett, Francis-Barnett was an English motorcycle manufacturer that was eventually acquired by AMC in ’47. After WWII, the company focused on small two-strokes with Villiers-sourced engines. After ’57 they started using AMC’s powerplant. Francis-Barnett liked to name their bikes after birds, including Falcon, Kestrel, Merlin, and more. One of those birds was what you see in front of you now, a Francis-Barnett Plover.
This bike looks like it’s got a 149cc AMC two-stroke with an Amal carb. While the registration comes up as a ’58 model, the FB Owners Club has verified it to be from 1960. It’s an older restoration that works as it should – the seller suggests that to be perfect, all it needs is some touching up of the paint as there are some minor scratches. It comes with paperwork, maintenance manuals, and a few spare parts.
