The twin cylinder Dominator designed by Bert Hopwood was first available as a 500 CC in 1949 and evolved into the Dominator model 99. By 1960 it had vastly improved electrics and brakes which made it a great part of Norton’s line up. A factory tuned Domiracer variant was raced in ‘61 and ‘62 and the whole project was eventually sold to Paul Dunstall who sold high performance Nortons and parts to the world.
The 1960 Norton Dominator 99 used a 597 CC air cooled 4 stroke overhead valve vertical twin motor that produced 31 HP. A single Amal carb with a 4 speed gearbox with a 395 LBS dry weight gave the Dominator a top speed of 106 MPH. The legendary Norton Featherbed frame and Roadholdler front forks with improved brakes made the Dominator a very good handling motorcycle.
This 1960 Norton Dominator 99 (VIN # 88181) is in Santa Monica, CA and is listed as a 2,325 mile survivor. Claimed to be a very complete bike that has been owned since 1970 and is freshly serviced. This bike is available with a Buy It Now price of $6,900
