Paging Paul D’Orleans! Here’s a rare example of the Velocette brand, the Venom Endurance.
According to Paul’s site, The Vintagent:
A little family history; the original Scrambler model was an MSS with a tuned engine, in the standard RS swingarm frame (easy to spot – engine #MSS S xxxx). This engine became the basis of the Venom, with street tinware. The Scrambler diverged into a specialized machine with it’s own frame, and the Endurance, which is the street version of the original Scrambler (same RS frame as VM/MSS – engine # VMxxxxE). Identical engine to the VM, but smaller tank, alloy mudguards, etc. VM or MSS are the touring machines, as the Endurance has a very small tank…
I’ve seen other sources like Grace’s Guide, that say the Endurance was built specifically for the American market and was introduced in either ’55 or ’56. But I’m inclined to trust what Paul has to say on the matter.
This example has 6,800 miles and is claimed to be in very good original condition, though it’s not perfect. It has some scratches and dings, but there’s no serious damage. The seat has a small tear and one of the tank emblems is cracked. Mechanically, “the bike runs and rides exactly as it should, the only issue is the corks in the fuel valves need to be replaced.”
