Post Listing Update: This Harley did not meet reserve with 3 bids up to $5,908.
In 1977, Harley-Davidson built a limited edition of just 631 bikes across 6 models – they dubbed these motorcycles the Confederate Edition and they are some of the rarest Harleys ever built. Presumably due to political correctness, no Confederate Editions are on display at Harley’s corporate museum. I’ve only featured one of these before, but that bike didn’t run. This replica has some surface rust and paint fade but it starts, runs, and everything is claimed to work. It’s unclear if the original owner bought the bodywork off a real Confederate Edition and slapped it on his bike or if he got some custom decals made.
Most of the Confederate Editions were either FXEs or FXRs. For more information on this limited edition, check out this article from Motorcycle Classics, which says that only 23 bikes are still accounted for.
This replica (VIN: 2C38313H7) is a FX Super Glide that’s claimed to be original except for brand new tires – the original bodywork is included and faded from the sun. It’s got 6,963 miles and unlike a real Confederate Edition, you might not feel too bad putting miles on this one.
