Post-Sale Update: This Ducati 900 MHR Custom sold for $7,800 after just 1 bid on eBay.
The Ducati 900 MHR (Mike Hailwood Replica) was built to commemorate Hailwood’s success in the 1978 Isle of Man TT. Normally a race replica with a giant fairing, this bike has been customized to become nearly the opposite.
The MHR went through several incremental changes over its lifespan – by 1983 the 900SS it was based on was updated with an electric-start and a new frame, so the MHR got the same changes. Unfortunately, these changes added weight but no power, so the 63 horsepower wasn’t exciting consumers as much as it had been back when the bike was first released 5 years prior. Want to learn more about the fantastic story that led to this bike? Check out Motorcycle Classics for a great summary of Mike Hailwood’s comeback and his victory at the Isle of Man that inspired this classic motorcycle.
This specific Ducati 900 MHR Custom is short on details, but it comes with Showa forks, Ohlins shocks, Magtech wheels (for a Honda?), and more. I’m curious to see if any bids are placed on this bike – the seller has taken a bike that was famous for its looks and then…removed them.
