In 1984 Honda released two versions of the VF1000 Interceptor. Both models were very similar and based on the current Honda race bikes. The VF1000F was the more modest of the two builds, and the VF1000R was considered the fastest production motorcycle on earth. The VF1000F was only produced for one year.
The VF1000F boasted a 113 HP, 998 cc DOHC V-4 motor. Two disc front and single rear disc stopped the bike very well, and the suspension was pro grade adjustable and included Honda’s anti dive system on the front. One trick piece on the ‘F’ model was the removable tailpiece. In place, it made a race looking single seat. Easily removed, it exposed the passenger seat.
This bike appears to be an incredibly clean 12,000 mile original. The verbiage in the ad seems to imply that this might be an ‘R’ variant but this is clearly an ‘F’ model. It is listed only as a VF1000. That said, it is incredible looking, and the removable tail is included (the above two photos show it off and on). The bike is for sale in Spokane, Washington and can be seen right here on Cycle Trader. Price may be a little steep at $6500 but it is flagged as negotiable.
