Post Sale Update: This Gixxer sold for $7,600 after 22 bids on eBay.
In 1988, Suzuki released the 2nd generation of their legendary 750 Gixxer. It was dubbed the “Slingshot” due to the slingshot carbs. A year later, Suzuki made some minor revisions, yielding the bike you see here. The seller says it’s a former JDM model but the gauges are all in miles.
Changes for 1989 included different cosmetics, a revised rear shock, different gear ratios for 3rd, 4th, and 5th, a 5mm increase in the wheelbase, and more. Suzuki made even more changes for 1990, and then released the 3rd gen of the model in 1991. The 749cc in line four DOHC engine of this bike produced 106 horsepower and 54 pound feet of torque.
This example (VIN: js1gr77a6k2100147) has just 10,250 miles. It’s been upgraded with a Vance & Hines exhaust and Mikuni RS34 flat slide carbs – guess you can’t call it a Slingshot any more. The cosmetics look pretty good considering the age, and the seller says everything works as it should. The motorcycle was just given a ‘full service tune up’, though I’d want to clarify exactly what that entails.
