Post Listing Update: This VFR did not get any interest at the asking price of $3,800.

Bubba Shobert was skilled in all sorts of AMA racing, and he has the titles to prove it – he was the AMA Grand National Champion in 1985, 1986, and 1987, as well as the AMA Pro Athlete of the Year in 1986 and 1987. In 1988, he also won the AMA Superbike Championship, and he did it on a Honda VFR750 Interceptor. Unfortunately, a tragic accident involving a burnout by Kevin Magee on the track during the cool-off lap abruptly ended Shobert’s racing career. This VFR has been customized to look like Shobert’s championship-winning Interceptor.

Impressively, the VFR750 was also ridden to an AMA Superbike championship by Fred Merkel in 1986, the year it was introduced. The AMA Hall of Fame has a page dedicated to the actual bike, so you can compare cosmetics.

This example (VIN: JH2RC240XGM000750) has had plenty of cosmetic work to the bodywork and paint, but it’s also got a “full engine refresh”, Kerker exhaust, K&N filter, and LED lighting designed to keep the motorcycle street legal while trying to preserve as much of the look of the original race bike as possible. It’s got 36,000 miles on the odometer and it comes with the original tool kit, owners manual, service manual, key chain, collector’s book, records of previous work, and plenty of the original parts.
