Post-Sale Update: This ELR sold for $15,600 after 30 bids on eBay.
A limited edition tribute to Eddie Lawson, just 750 examples of the Kawasaki KZ1000R ELR (Eddie Lawson Replica) were built between 1982 and 1983. With the exception of subpar rear shocks, the press and the public loved this bike and how aggressively it was set up.
The 998cc inline four produced 79 horsepower in a bike that weighed 543 pounds. Top speed was just shy of 130, and none of those numbers matter to me because I think this is one of the definitive muscle bikes of all time. Want to learn more about this special bike? Check out this write-up from Motorcycle Classics, who call it “A mean machine in its day and collectible classic Kawasaki motorcycle today.”
This example (VIN: JKAKZCR17DA001958) has 8,796 miles is being offered by a Kawasaki collector who notes that while the bike is not perfect, it is in great shape. There’s a small scratch and dent in the tank, some chips in the right side cover, minor cosmetic laws in other spots, and a hole in the seat. Most importantly, everything works as it should and it’s got the original Kerker exhaust. The tool kit and owners manual are not included.
