From Thailand – 1965 Daihatsu Midget Tuk Tuk

In 3 Wheels, Japan by Abhi2 Comments

Post Sale Update: After being relisted, this Tuk Tuk sold for $6,000 on eBay.

As a brown guy, I call these awesome three wheelers ‘rickshaws’, but these are also known the world over as ‘tuk tuks’. No matter what you call them, they’re almost never found in the US. Even better, thanks to the lax rules in Florida, this is currently plated and street legal!

Daihatsu Tuk Tuk - Cockpit

Daihatsu is Japan’s oldest car manufacturer, though Americans probably only remember few short years between ’87 and ’92 when you could order a Charade or Rocky. The Midget was built in a variety of styles, like the people carrier you see here or cargo carriers that look like mini pickup trucks. This example uses a 350cc 2-stroke engine and it’s titled as a motorcycle in Florida. It’s claimed to run and drive and it has new disc brakes and a whole bunch of spare parts imported from Thailand. The only issue seems to be that the carb needs some ‘fine tuning’, but then you’ve got one heck of a parade vehicle (or maybe the world’s greatest pit bike when you go racing)?
