4-3 Update: And it’s back! Find this Lossa Engineering SR500 for sale with bidding up to $6,700 and the reserve not yet met
Post-Listing Update: After 29 bids on eBay, this Yamaha SR500 Cafe Racer did not meet reserve at $9,100.
Excited that Yamaha has announced they’re bringing back the SR400? Celebrate with a cafe’d example of the granddaddy SR500 from Lossa Engineering. This example was purchased last year, but the previous owner managed to run the bike without checking for oil, and…now the bike has a new engine.
Yamaha’s SR500 featured a 499cc single that produced 32 horsepower and returned about 53 miles per gallon. But the numbers aren’t what make this bike special. The SR500 has become a platform for all types of customs, and that’s what has cemented its place in motorcycling history.
This specific Yamaha SR500 Cafe Racer has been covered by the fantastic BikeEXIF, and it now enjoys a new motor with a fresh cylinder, new Weisco big bore piston, Megacycle cam, new bearings, rocker arms, and oil pump. It has 18″ wheels from a RD400, the front end and rearsets from a Suzuki GSXR, and plenty of other modifications.
Now YOU can tear around on the abandoned streets of Los Angeles in the morning, and replicate this film:
