For a long time, I thought the BMW R1100S was the prettiest bike to come out of Munich for a long, long time. I actually had the pleasure of owning one for a few years, and I thought it was a wonderful, well-balanced road bike. Now’s your chance to partake.
The boxer engine was good for 98 horsepower, and top speed was just over 140 miles per hour. BMW marketed this as a sports bike but it was never quick enough to do that. I truly thought it was an excellent all-arounder, and I really do believe it’s going to be a future classic. They’re pretty, reliable (I put 48,000 miles on mine and the only problem was one of the gauge cluster lights burnt out – your mileage may vary), and they sound great with a Van der Linde chip/exhaust. The last year of production (2004) came with a dual-spark engine, but that’s not enough of a reason to discredit the earlier models.
This specific BMW R1100S (VIN: WB10432A82ZB52568) has just 1,640 miles. It also has unfortunately painted mirror/fairing panels. I’m not a fan, but they’re easily replaced. It also comes with PIAA fog lights and the BMW alarm system.
