Post Sale Update: This GS550E sold for $910 after 23 bids on eBay.
This rolling testament to meticulous maintenance is a Suzuki GS550E – the original owner put nearly 80K on it between 1980 and 1988 while changing the oil every 1,500 miles. After nearly 3 decades of slumber, the bike has been brought back to life and it’s now looking for owner number 2 – I wonder how many miles they’ll put on it!
The GS550 was one of Suzuki’s earliest 4-stroke bikes, and while it wasn’t as popular as its bigger brother GS750, it was still a competent standard. The 550 put out 49 horsepower and weighed 431 pounds wet, good for a top speed of 111 miles per hour. For more on the GS550, check out this article from Motorcycle Classics.
This example (VIN: GS550E1363550 has 79,508 miles and as seen just above the taillight, it’s been dubbed “Suzi II”. That’s because the original rider owned a Suzuki before this that was named “Suzi.” Modifications seem to be limited to a Derale Performance oil cooler. The seller (Ultra Motor Source – a dealership that I’ve featured bikes from in the past) brought this bike back to life with some new wear items, a carb cleaning, and a detail. The sale includes the owner’s manual, toolkit, and original key.
