Take one Suzuki DR650SE, and add an owner who can’t seem to help himself, and you’ve got a project that started as a detail job and ended as a basically new bike. He’s joking, but the seller starts off his listing with “I defy you to show me a bigger waste of money than this 1996 DR650SE.”
Why does he make that claim? Well, the bike was stripped down to the frame, and then he went crazy. $600 worth of powdercoating combined with new fenders from a 2015 model, new plastics, and a bunch of mechanical work totaled up to $4,000 in work for what started as an oil change and a detail. I’d laugh at him but I’ve put myself in similar situations before – I’m pretty sure all of you have, too. If you’re looking to learn more about the DR itself, follow this link where Cycle World explains why it’s one of the best used bikes you can buy.
