Post Listing Update: Bidding got up to $6,501.01 but the seller then pulled this CBX off of eBay. Final sale price unknown.

It wasn’t the first six-cylinder modern motorcycle (that honor goes to the Benelli Sei), but Honda’s CBX was the most popular of them. The only issue is that “popular 6-cylinder” was still a poor selling motorcycle, so it was still out of the market within 5 years. By the end of the run Honda had evolved it into a sport tourer but from ’78 to ’80 the CBX was a big naked superbike. Purists may not be excited about this specific example but I like the seller’s attitude that this “is a wonderful restored classic with tasteful understated upgrades to the brakes and suspension that make this a great/fun and reliable riding machine without sacrificing it’s original beauty.”

The 1,047cc inline 6 motor produced 103 horsepower and it was good for 140 miles per hour. FOr more details on this cult classic, check out this story on Motorcycle Classics. What are the upgrades to this bike, you ask? Well, the highlights of this example (VIN: SC032010103) include a Pipemasters 6-into-6 stainless steel exhaust, high output alternator, 39mm forks and Pro-Link swingarm from a ’81 CBX, plus dual piston caliper upgrades to both front and rear brakes with calipers from a CB900F.

In addition to the upgrades, the bike was cosmetically restored after being taken down to the frame. The bodywork was repainted, the falve covers were ceramic coated, the frame was powdercoated, the carbs were ultrasonically cleaned and then rebuilt, kevlar brake lines, and a few parts from Honda’s European line – the left hand controls with the ability to turn the lights off, lower handlebars, and foot pegs. The seller has stock parts for everything that was replaced except the exhaust (a separate Kerker 6-into-2 exhaust is included). The gauges are not original and mileage is estimated to be under 20k. There are two flaws – the voltmeter gauge needle has partially broken off but it still functions and there’s a chip in the top cooling fin on the clutch side of the motor.
