This Interstate is in great condition thanks to a ‘crank-up concours restoration’, but it really stands out thanks to the interesting delivery story – it was delivered in new in a crate to an aircraft carrier off Thailand!
The Norton was well-known for rubber engine mounts (deemed an “isolastic” systems) that tremendously cut down vibrations. This is the Interstate model, named as it has slight tweaks to make it more touring friendly. This example (VIN: 316282) was ordered in 1974 by a US Naval serviceman and delivered to his home at the time – an aircraft carrier. His colleagues and him put the bike together and then he used the bike as transportation in different ports of call during his time in the Navy. Over a couple of decades he put approximately 2,800 miles on it, and then after retiring he decided to restore it.
The second owner completed the restoration and added electronic ignition, Mikuni carb, stainless brake line and brake rotor in the front, and more. Find this Commando Interstate for sale in Brooklyn, New York with bidding up to $6,600 and the reserve not yet met
