Cycle World said the XL350R was 1985’s best Dual Purpose bike, and Cycle named it one of their top 10 motorcycles of the year, saying it “may be the best-balanced dual-purpose bike ever.” Here’s a lovely example that just happens to be number 52 off the production line in 1984.

The 340cc engine put out 27 horsepower, good for a top speed of 83 miles per hour. Cycle World put it this way: Being seen on a Honda XL350R…is something you can be proud of. Because chances are that you’re having more fun than anyone who happens to see you….It’s big enough to outrun the door-slammers on the freeway, and yet small enough to be a real kick to ride in the dirt.

This bike (VIN: JH2ND030XEM000052) has 4,226 miles and it looks to be in good shape considering how old it is. It’s not perfect – there’s some expected cosmetic wear, especially on the engine. But everything works and nothing leaks. It has the original tool kit and the seller says it usually starts on the first or second kick.
