Post Sale Update: This Ducati Sport 1000 Special Edition did not get any action, though the BIN was lowered to $22,750.
In 2007, Ducati released a limited edition of just 100 bikes, only in North America. The Ducati Sport 1000 Special Edition is one of the rarest Ducatis made in recent history, and combines modern tech with traditionally-inspired design. Specifically built to remind fans of the 1978 Ducati 900SS Darmah with its classic black and gold paint scheme, only 90 were sold in the US, and 10 were sold in Canada.
Each of these bikes came as a Monoposto, and was identified with a numbered plaque on the triple tree. In addition, you got a twin muffler shotgun exhaust, spoke wire wheels, and Brembo brakes. While most SportClassics came with double shocks, this bike only came with one Ohlins in the rear, presumably to make room for the unique exhaust. In 2007, this bike had a MSRP of $11,495, which makes the current asking price that much more depressing.
This specific Ducati Sport 1000 Special Edition is number 6 of 100. It’s claimed to be in excellent condition, with just 5,000 miles on it. You’re paying a premium for exclusivity, but it does come with the wonderful Termignoni exhaust. Not much else to say about this bike – you either know if you want one of these or not, and it’s just a matter if you’re willing to pay the price for a bike that rarely comes up for sale.
