Post Listing Update: This HB3 did not meet reserve despite bidding up to $8,950.
Another rare and exquisite bike from Massimo Tamburini, the HB3 was Bimota’s third model with a Honda engine. This time around it utilized the air-cooled four cylinder from a CB1100F. 101 examples were produced (43 with a half fairing and 58 with a full fairing). Here’s #25 of the production run.
The engine was good for 110 horsepower – Bimota claimed a top speed of over 155 miles per hour. Italia 40mm forks with magnesium tubes are complemented by a De Carbon rear shock. The package was available as a kit or as a complete bike, either way there were four colorways. This features the white with two red stripes paint scheme, of which 29 were made (the 2nd most popular option). In a May 1984 review, Motorcycling Weekly said, “Speaking objectively, it is the best high-speed handler I have ever come across. That reputation for immaculate steering, tenacious line holding and amazing stability at speed is well founded.”
Four years ago, this bike (VIN: HB300025) was for sale with a BIN of $30,000. It has just under 20,000 miles on the odometer and the seller says it needs nothing. It was given a recent service and a new battery, and according to the seller, it was used for a story in Bike Magazine back in 1983.
Now you can find this HB3 for sale in Santa Barbara, California with bidding up to $6,600 and the reserve not yet met
