10/1 Update: This Buell X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme has been relisted here on eBay with a Buy-It-Now price of $4,000.
Post Sale Update: After being relisted, this Buell X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme did not meet reserve at $2,716 on eBay.
The Buell X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme, besides being a mouthful, was one of two limited edition X1’s produced by the American firm in 1999. Both featured the distinctive the Nuclear Blue frame, as well as other cosmetic improvements. The X1, successor to the S1 Lightning, brought a few improvements to Buell’s bread and butter sport bike, particularly the DDFI fuel injection.
The Carbon Fiber Extreme was the rarer of the 2, with just 250 produced. Features included carbon fiber weaved with a blue-tinted Dupont Kevlar fiber on the front fairing, chin spoiler, tank cover, and windscreen. Look closely and you’ll see the Buell Pegasus icon weaved into the windscreen. You’ll also get Nuclear Blue wheels and frame, and a numbered gas cap. MSRP was $11,299.
This specific Buell X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme has covered a little over 18,000 miles and seems to be in decent shape. Only two minor flaws – a small blemish on the tank cover, and the turn signals don’t work. Enjoy a piece of history from a defunct manufacturer with this lovely limited edition. The carbon fiber and Nuclear Blue look great together.
