Post-Sale Update: After 5 bids on eBay, this Ducati 888SPO did not meet reserve at $7,900.
The Ducati 888SPO was a limited edition of the 888 – only 390 were produced over two years. Featuring the trademark desmo valve V-Twin, this 888 produced 94 horsepower and were very much suited to track time. Though road legal, the riding position is what one would call “committed”, and they weren’t friendly in traffic.
The 1993 model was known as the 888SPO, while the ’94 was technically known as the 888LTD. Slight improvements contributed to a quarter mile time of 10.81 seconds on the way to a top speed of 157 miles per hour. For a limited edition Ducati, the 888SPO gets very little mention and is relatively underappreciated it. Keep your eyes peeled for head and base gasket leaks, and you should be fine. This is just a beautiful bike that won both the World Superbike and AMA Superbike championships in 1993.
This specific Ducati 888SPO is #25 of the 100 produced (a claimed 75 were imported to the US) in 1994, and is a one owner bike. The owner seems to have difficulty understanding what unmodified means, as he first claims the bike is unmodified, then describes an aftermarket rear Ohlins schok, Ferraci slipons, and a Ferraci ECU chip. We’re a little unclear abut the Ohlins shock, as that should have been a factory option, but the Ferraci additions are welcome extras.
