Post-Sale Update: This KTM 450SXF Dungey Edition was pulled off eBay before the auction ended, final sale price unknown.
KTM has been one of the leaders in motocross racing for countless years, particularly in AMA with Ryan Dungey. As part of AMA homologation rules, KTM had to release 400 units of this bike – otherwise Dungey would be disqualified from the races he participated in. Though KTM surely finds it to be a hassle, this means that the public got access to a great bike right from the dealership floor.
All 400 units came to the US, and offered choice upgrades over the base 2012 SX-F. Changes include a move to fuel injection, a smaller and lighter die-cast engine as opposed to the original sand-cast powerplant, and a new frame in an exclusive orange designed to fit the smaller engine. Test riders found the fuel injection to be a huge benefit, letting the engine rev quicker and feel more responsive at low RPMs. The components, as you’d expect, are top notch, and the design got plenty of input from world-class riders like Dungey. Normally, the sales cap and high price tag (original MSRP of $9,595) of bikes like this means that they won’t see serious dirt. It would make more financial sense to buy a 2013 450 SX-F with the same scratch, but it looks like this owner has enjoyed his bike as it should have been.
This specific KTM 450 SXF Dungey Edition is in excellent shape, and has two major upgrades: a factory connection suspension and full FMF exhaust system. It’s also got new tires, chain, and sprocket. It has just 49 hours of usage, and it comes with Team Red Bull graphics decals separately.
