Post Sale Update: This SB4S sold for the opening bid of $16,000 on eBay in Southington, Connecticut.
One of Bimota’s rarest motorcycles, the SB4S was produced as a complete bike and in kit form – 34 of the former and 72 of the latter, which makes a total of 106. The differences between the SB4 and the SB4S were the addition of an oil cooler, four-into-one exhaust, and full fairing.
The first “S” in SB4S stood for Suzuki, because the Bimota frame was wrapped around a 1,100cc Suzuki motor that produced 111 horsepower thanks to their Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber tech. The wet weight was just over 400 pounds, shaving off a tremendous percentage of fat from the 535 dry weight of the Suzuki. The frame is chromoly with aluminum side plates, and the tank/tail was all one piece.
This example (VIN: SB400127) was originally purchased as a kit, and the seller includes an original build sheet from when it was sold by The Performance Works of Canoga Park, California. It utilized a Suzuki GS1100 engine with +2mm Yoshimura pistons, Vance & Hines clutch basket, welded crank, heavy duty cam chain, and some carb work. It now shows 1,801 miles and the seller says it fires right up thanks to a recent service with new NGK plugs, new battery, and an oil/filter change. The sale includes a spare parts list and sales flyer.
