Post Sale Update: This TSX sold for $4,050.
Triumph went bankrupt in August of 1983, and right before they collapsed they tried a couple of Hail Marys to keep sales going. One of the attempts was the TSX – a T140 that had been restyled by their American division. 371 examples were built before the company went under, and 200 of those made it to the US. This example needs a small amount of work but it’s a runner and these are hard to find.
While you could argue that the changes between this and a T140 were minimal, Triumph at least made several of them. The biggest difference was a lower chassis, thanks to an offset engine and smaller rear wheel. Other significant upgrades included the addition of a kickstarter and double Brembo brakes. There were also plenty of cosmetic changes – 2/3rds of the production run were adorned in this Gypsy Red paintwork, and all of them got stickered graphics, shorter megaphone pipes, shorter painted mudguards, a black finish on the engine, and the stepped seat.
This bike (VIN: SCGB 7550 5CM0321) has 15,510 miles and it’s said to be in good running original condition though the chrome shows wear, there’s a few scratches in the paint, there’s a hole in the seat, and the push rod seals leak oil. A few parts have been worked on recently – the transmission was rebuilt with new 1st and 2nd gears, the master cylinders were replaced, the carbs were rebuilt, and it has an aftermarket head light reflector and bulb. The sale includes parts manuals, repair manuals, and a new gasket set.
