9/19/13 Update: It seems like this seller might be just a bit optimistic. This Suzuki GSX-R1100 has been relisted on eBay for the same $6,500.
The Suzuki GSX-R1100 was introduced in 1986. Featuring 137 horsepower and weighing just 434 pounds, it was the fastest bike on the block at the time. Introduced right after the United States lowered the import tax on bikes above 700ccs to 24.4 percent (from over 39 percent), the bike even seemed like a relative bargain.
Every year, the big Gixxer evolved incrementally. In 1991, the “M” model gained larger carbs and a reworked front fairing which placed the headlights under a cover to help with aerodynamics. This was in addition to a lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1990 to correct handling problems from the previous year. Want to learn more? Visor Down has a great comparison between this bike and it’s main rival at the time, the Yamaha FZR1000.
This specific Suzuki GSX-R1100 has had 3 owners who have covered just over 12,000 miles. Nearly the entire bike is original, and the seller still has the originals for certain parts that he replaced with aftermarket ones (such as the seat cowl, Mikuni side draft carbs, and exhaust). For the age, it seems to be in great cosmetic shape, and the seller ensures that the bike doesn’t sit for too long at a time.
