112k Miles – 1972 BMW R75/5

In Germany, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

This short wheelbase /5 has six figures on the odometer, and some choice period upgrades.

The highlights of the modifications include a 9 gallon Heinrich fuel tank, Brown side stand, European handlebars, Craven bags, Koni shocks, and more. The seller has maintenance records going back to 1981. The seller says that everything works great and that you shouldn’t let the mileage worry you. At 50,000 miles, Reg Pridmore’s shop did some engine work: they replaced the crank bearings, lightened the flywheel, and bumped up displacement to 840cc.

As you’d expect with this kind of mileage, this bike (VIN: 2986620) isn’t in perfect cosmetic condition. The biggest issue is a 3-inch long shallow dent on the right side of the tank due to a tip over – the seller says “it’s not a show queen, but it’s quite an eye catcher.” Last year the bike got a service at MAX BMW which included new fluids, tires, a battery, and rebuilds of the forks, carbs, and more. It looks like this bike is well set up to cover another six figures of mileage with continued consistent maintenance.
