Post Sale Update: This Katana sold for $2,746 after 24 bids on eBay in Matthews, North Carolina.
Arguably a restyle of the GS550, the middleweight Katana had many of the styling cues of its bigger brothers, except the most important one! The headlight was a solitary circle sticking out into the wind, instead of a square in the distinctive angular fairing that became part of the Katana legend. Does that make it a bit of an impostor? You tell me.
The 550 Katana was advertised with 53.7 horsepower, a compression ratio of 8.6:1, a 6-speed transmission, and a dry weight of 452 pounds. This example stands out as it’s claimed to have just 145 miles. Some photos make that number hard to dispute, though there’s more cosmetic damage to the bodywork than you’d expect considering the relative lack of use. The seller says that “Suzuki donated the bike to a college back in 1982 and the bike has been sitting ever since.” He or she “cleaned the carbs and fuel tank and of course it started right up.”
