Post Sale Update: this NSR250R sold for $19,000 including fees after 8 bids on Iconic Motorbike Auctions.
In 1991, Honda split the base and SP models of the NSR250R with the introduction of the SE (Super Edition) model. They had all of the SP goodies (dry clutch, adjustable suspension, special livery) except for the magnesium wheels. In 1994, the Japanese firm updated the NSR with an all new model dubbed the MC28. The result was arguably the ultimate 250cc street bike in Japan thanks in no small part to the PGM-IV ignition and Pro-Arm single sided swingarm. Also notable was the memory card used to start the bike. The only changes for 1996 were in the colorway, but it was the beginning of the end for the legendary machine as the R model was discontinued.
This example (VIN: MC28-1202288) is part of a divorce sale that we’ve been handling at Iconic, and it’s one of the nicest NSRs we’ve ever seen. The odometer shows just 252 kilometers (156 miles). The owner unfortunately lost the PGM-IV card, so we had to disassemble the dash (which contains the ECU) and send it to Australia to get it reprogrammed for a new card – this took about 3 months. In addition to the PGM-IV work, our techs cleaned and sync’d the carbs, flushed the brake fluid, flushed the transmission oil, flushed the fuel tank, and replaced the petcock, air filter, and battery. The total service bill was approximately $2,300 and it now runs as good as it looks. If you plan on riding, we’d recommend that you budget for new tires as it’s currently equipped with the OEM units – the seller wanted to keep it as original as possible.
