Post Listing Update: This Guzzi did not meet reserve despite 34 bids up to $11,850 on eBay in Concord, New Hampshire.
In Moto Guzzi’s long history, there are several models that have stood the test of time. But for many, the ultimate offering is the first gen LeMans.
High compression pistons and 36mm Dell’Ortos helped the 850 put down 71 horsepower, good for a top speed of around 135 miles per hour. For more on the 850 LeMans, check out this write-up on Motorcycle Classics.
The seller of this example (VIN: 70700) acquired it in 2007 from Atlas Cycles in Tulsa, Oklahoma – the story is that Atlas sold it “new in 1976 to a customer who then traded it back in six months later claiming it was too much motorcycle for him. The owner of Atlas really liked the bike so put it in storage at the dealership.” The owner of the dealership sold the company, which is how the current owner acquired this bike. It has just 1,825 miles on the odometer and was freshly serviced with a new battery, carb clean, and fluid flush, so it’s ready to ride – except for the tires, which are 13 years old and should be replaced if you want to add to the odometer reading. The stock seat is obviously not shown in the photos, but it is included. The seller put it in storage to keep it in good shape and instead sourced a Corbin for regular usage. The one cosmetic flaw seems to be a small chip on the front fairing, but it looks great for a 44-year-old bike.
