Post-Sale Update: This Indian Big Twin sold for the BIN of $55,000.
The Indian Big Twin was the last of an era – some even consider it to be the last “real” Indian as it was the end of the F-head engine in a cradle-spring frame. 1915 was the last year of production before Indian stopped racing efforts to help with the war, and debuted the flat head V-Twin dubbed the Power Plus.
The 1,000cc F-head engine produced an impressive 15 horsepower. Approximately 21,000 were created, and obviously a tiny fraction of that remain now after 100 years.
This specific Indian Big Twin enjoyed a “100% correct” restoration – every part is original Indian, and plenty of it as New Old Stock. It was restored by (and was a personal bike of) the late Pete Bollenbach, considered by many to be one of the top 5 Indian restorers in the world. The current seller bought it from Pete in 1999, at the time it had 400 hours of restoration time into it. It has won several AMCA and national awards, and while there is some wear and tear because the bike is thankfully ridden, it still looks damn good and would be (as the seller notes) an excellent Cannonball candidate.
