1924 Indian Scout

In America, Vintage by Tom WackerLeave a Comment

Indian introduced the Scout in 1920 and the run continued until WWII. It would be one of Indian’s best selling models of all time and some consider the second generation Scout (1928-31) the best motorcycle made by Indian.

The first generation Scout was somewhat underpowered but by the second generation the motor and handling had improved which led to legendary status among racers and hillclimbers.

The 1924 Indian Scout used a 37 CID (610 CC) air cooled four stroke side valve V-Twin motor mated to (actually bolted together) a three speed hand shifted (toe clutch) transmission. Front suspension was a parallelogram girder, the rear was rigid and it came with a sprung seat and rear brake only. Total weight was 370 LBS.

This particular 1924 Indian Scout (Engine # 55X905) is in Coquille, Oregon and is listed as ‘restored’. The listing is skimpy at best, but claims that all supporting paperwork goes with the bike including manuals and restoration receipts. I can tell you that the motor is definitely a 1924 Scout motor, and the frame number would be an easy and obvious checkpoint. The bike has a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $42,150 with the ‘Make Offer’ option. I discovered an earlier listing for $36,500 in my research. The auction ends Wednesday, March 15th
