Post Listing Update: This vintage DKW did not get any interest at the asking price of $2,950.
In Sweden, the most popular early motorcycle was the DKW-powered Diamant. This example was originally built and sold in 1939 but due to World War II it wasn’t registered until 1946. Over 70 years later, it’s still running and rocking the original paint – plus it comes with a copy of the original registration!
The Diamant features a 3-speed transmission paired to a 98cc two-stroke motor. It was perfect for Swedish citizens looking for cheap transportation after the Great Depression. Per the seller, the Diamant was “sold for about 400kr ($50), which represented about 2 months of salary for an industrial worker.”
This example (VIN: 723088) is in decent shape considering how old it is. The seller notes some surface (and occasionally deeper) rust, a broken spoke, and a non-functioning rear light. The motor, carb, clutch, transmission, and brakes are all said to work well.
