By 1939 the K series Velocette featuring the overhead cam single had been in production for 14 years. The ‘39 was a Mk2 motor that was extensively and successfully raced in Europe, particularly at the Isle of Man. The KSS was a detoxified version of the racing bike that included electric lighting, illuminated speedometer, electric horn and the positive stop foot shifter as standard equipment.
The 1939 Velocette KSS used a 348 CC (23.1 CID) four stroke air cooled overhead cam single cylinder motor that produced 19 HP that was pushed through a wet clutch and 3 speed transmission for a reported top speed near 90 MPH. The bike weighed 265 LBS with a rigid rear and spring loaded Webb fork front suspension. The motor was a stressed member of the frame.
This particular 1939 Velocette KSS (VIN # 5413) is in Magalia, California and is listed as having been restored by Denton Hill sometime in the past. Mileage is 13,736 and the bike has been sitting on a stand (per photos) “so may need some TLC”. It has never been titled in the US, comes with an English Title. The bike is currently sitting on it’s opening price of $13,995
