It was a softer, gentler time. People were mostly polite to one another, and life moved at a slower pace. Even the ice cream man didn’t have a shrieking PA sound system to announce his proximity. The vendor had a polite and pleasant bell system to alert customers.
Based on the 50 series scooter, Cushman made a front box three wheeled vendor cart, their model 59*. I have no idea how many Cushman sold, but there are a surprising number of these for sale currently.
The 1947 Cushman Model 59* used the same equipment* as the Model 50. A 4 HP motor with centrifugal clutch. A 2 speed transmission was an option to the standard direct drive.
This example of a Model 59 is a full blown custom. It is listed as restored, but I believe the front frame is lengthened*, a steering wheel installed* (the standard was handlebars) chrome wheels* and an upgraded headlight system* to go with a custom box.
This particular 1947 Cushman Ice Cream Vendor Cart (VIN# 3546456) is in Pembine, Wisconsin and listed as restored. There is very little information with the listing, but I believe that this is a newer 8 HP Husky motor*. It is a gorgeous piece and astoundingly there are many parts available. The item is listed with a Buy It Now price of $12,000
Everything marked with * is somewhat speculative. It means I couldn’t find 2 sources for the information and/or the information was an aside to another topic.
