Post Sale Update: This 16H did not meet reserve despite 10 bids on eBay up to $8,000. However, it was relisted twice and eventually sold for $7,700 after 6 bids.
Between 1911 and 1954, Norton produced a series of bikes all around a 490cc side-valve engine. These bikes were referred to as the 16H – H stood for Home, as in a domestic model. The 16C (Colonial) was introduced in ’21, and had more ground clearance for roads in poor condition.
The 490cc engine produced 14 horsepower, good for a top speed of 68 miles per hour. This specific Norton 16H (VIN: B27084) recently had the cylinder resleeved back to stock, and it got a new piston/rings/valves/generator/clutch, and more. About 700 miles have been put on the bike since that work was done, and the seller says it starts, shifts, and runs “incredibly well.” It’s served as a daily rider occasionally and has won “a couple of awards in AMCA shows.”
