1948 Moto Guzzi Super Alce

In Dual-Sport, Italy by Abhi1 Comment

Italian for ‘Moose’, the Alce was a Moto Guzzi built for the Italian Army between ’39 and ’45. This was a reliable mount that was eventually replaced by the Superalce (ha, Super Moose) and complemented by the Trialce, a three-wheeler. The Super Alce was produced between ’46 and’57. Apparently only 35 examples are known to exist in the US.

The 498cc OHV single produced 18.5 horsepower, enough to get the bike up to almost 70 horsepower. For more on the Super Alce, check out this web page dedicated to the bike. This example (VIN: AV96972) was originally a military bike but it was restored to civilian specs (including the Guzzi red livery). It’s now a biposto thanks to the addition of a passenger seat and passenger handlebars!
