The Scott Motorcycle Company started producing the Flying Squirrel in 1925 and continued right through to the last one produced in 1949. It was originally offered with a 498 cc or a 596 cc water cooled 2 stroke twin.
The Scott Squirrels have become the stuff of legend and are considered among the top most collectible motorcycles in the world. When first introduced, they were thought to be clunky and ill tempered, but over the years the company made many subtle changes that left them with the reputation of fast and dependable.
This particular Flying Squirrel is from late in 1948 as it has telescopic front forks (air over) and is listed as an ‘older restoration’. Only the 596 cc (600) variant was produced after the war which produced 30 HP. A three speed transmission pushed actual top speed to 80 MPH. This bike is for sale at Blue Moon Motorcycles in Norcross, Georgia for $13,995. You can find all the information here on Cycle Trader.
