1949 Universal B50

Once in a while I see a motorcycle that is so beautiful it just stops me cold. I went to find out more about this one and the only page I could find is in French.

The B50 utilized roller bearings on the crankshaft and needle bearings on the piston ends of aluminum rods. The rods are drilled lengthwise to supply oil to the needle bearings on the piston pins. The crank is removable (with roller bearings). It simply has to be a quiet and smooth motor.

This 1949 Model features hydraulic suspension fore and aft. It is shaft driven through a standard BMW pattern transmission. The shaft drive had a unique setup that used two universal joints and kept the shaft in line between the transmission and wheel horizontally and vertically.

This particular bike is available here on Cycle Trader in Norcross, Georgia for $17,500 at Blue Moon Cycles. I don’t know about you, but I am going to buy a lottery ticket today.
