It’s almost the end of the line. The original Indian Motorcycle Company built their last motorcycle in 1953 and all of those were built from parts left over from the ‘52s.
The ‘52 featured a 1,300cc (80 CID) motor driven through a clunky (non-synchromesh) 3 speed transmission. All ‘52’s were right hand shifted with a (left) toe clutch arrangement. The bike had full hydraulic front suspension and a ‘plunger’ type rear.
This Chieftan is a particularly good looking survivor. According to the ad, the last time it ran was in 2000 so it will need some service. Find this Roadmaster for sale in Chatsworth, California with bidding up to $22,100 and the reserve not yet met or a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $34,000 here on eBay.
