Best known for bicycles and Vespa Scooters (60,000 from 1949 to 1954) the firm Hoffmann-Werke Lintorf hired a noted designer to develop this bike and brought the Gouverneur to market in 1951.
The Gouverneur featured a 248cc opposed flat twin that was shaft driven through a 4 speed, foot shifted transmission with a claimed output of 14hp. The bike featured telescopic front forks and a plunger (hydraulic) set up on the rear.
Development costs for the Gouverneur and an ill fated microcar coupled with the loss of the license to Vespa caused Hoffmann to go bankrupt in 1954.
This particular Gouverneur is listed as an unrestored original, and looks to be in very good condition. The bike featured a pressed steel frame with a detachable double cradle which should make any engine repairs quite easy.
If you are interested in this bike it is for sale from Blue Moon Cycle in Norcross, Georgia here on Cycle Trader. Price is $12,500.
