1953 NSU Lux

In Germany, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

Built between 1951 and 1956, the NSU Lux was a popular standard – 78,845 were built in those few years. That’s not a small number, but very few are currently in this kind of condition.

The 198cc two-stroke single produced 11 horsepower, good for a top speed of just 60 miles per hour. Dry weight was 297 pounds. This example (VIN: 17317218) has just under 32,000 miles and it was imported to the US a few years ago. It spent some time in the Netherlands, which is why it has a yellow Bosch headlight. The seller says it runs but “it’s a far cry from reliable” due to a poor ignition system. He’s replaced the wiring harness, petcock, bulbs, and tires, plus rebuilt the carb. He’s also got a Power Dynamo 12V conversion kit but he’s held off on installing it because it would take away from the originality. So it’s up to you – preserve the bike as it is, or upgrade the electrics so you can enjoy the ride. The bike is not titled – you’ll just get a bill of sale and a lot of cool paperwork.
