1954 Vincent Comet Series C

A single-cylinder evolution of the famous Rapide, the Vincent Comet was one of four models using the 499cc single engine. This is one of the Series C bikes, the final evolution of the breed. There was apparently one Series D bike built but it never made it to production. Here’s your chance to save some money if you’re not a stickler for originality – read on to see why.

Vincent Comet Series C - Rear Right

The 499cc single engine was a stressed member of the frame and put out 28 horsepower thanks to an impressive (for the time) 7.3:1 compression ratio. Those ponies went through a four speed transmission and the bike was rounded out by Girdraulic front forks and rear suspension. Vincent Comet Series C - Gauges

This specific Vincent Comet Series C (VIN: F5AB2A10464) was restored/assembled in the 90s by noted Vincent restorer Mike White, supposedly to be his personal rider. After 10 years it was sold to the founder of thevincent.com, and has since made its way through a few more passionate Vincent enthusiasts. When I say the bike was ‘assembled’, that’s because it was put together from parts lying in Mr. White’s collection. While everything is OEM Vincent, the parts did not start together on the same bike.
