Post Sale Update: After 9 bids on eBay, this FB Mondial 200 SS sold for $6,375.
The FB Mondial 200 SS (also known as the Super Sport) was one of the few street bikes developed by the niche Italian manufacturer. Specializing in high performance, small displacement bikes, FB Mondial hand built most of their motorcycles, resulting in production numbers between just 1-2 thousand a year. For about half their life, Mondials were 100% built in house. After 1960, they switched to the Bimota model of producing bikes with Mondial frames and bodywork, but with engines sourced from other suppliers.
Interesting tidbit – back in 1957, Soichiro Honda approached Mondial about the purchase of one of their racebikes (which had just won 125cc and 250cc World Championships). Mondial gave Honda a bike, which was used to set the standard for Honda racebikes of the future. This kindness was repaid back in 2000, when Honda supplied engines for a superbike that Mondial was using to champion their rebirth. This was the first time Honda allowed another company to use their engines. The Mondial 200 Super Sport was even rare back in Italy, but they’re incredibly difficult to find in the states as they were never officially imported.
This specific FB Mondial 200 has spent the last few years as a display bike in the owner’s living room, though it was brought back to life last week. Note that the seller specifies it’s a 1955, though the title says otherwise. As he seems to be an importer of classic Italian bikes, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
