Like many motorcycle manufacturers, James Cycle Co started with the production of bicycles. Over time they evolved into motorcycles, and their calling card was red/maroon paint. They typically utilized Villiers engines, though AMC bought them out in 1951 and eventually James started using AMC two-stroke motors instead. By ’66, James was out of business.
James had a series of model names that were military ranks: Cadet, Commodore, Captain, and the 225cc two-stroke Colonel featured today. The Villiers motor was paired with a three speed transmission. The Colonel, as you might expect from the name, was James’ top of the line bike. For more information on the Colonel, check out Simply Wizard.
This example has 8,700 miles and it’s said to “present very well.” The seller ran the bike last year and turns the motor over every few months. Unfortunately, the bike does not have a title and it will only come with a bill of sale.
