Post-Sale Update: After 10 bids on eBay, this Bianchi Tonale 175 sold for $5,900.
Founded in the 19th century, Bianchi is now primarily known as a bicycle manufacturer. But for 70 years, the company made motorcycles – and they even had 5 solid years of racing success in the 20’s. Motorcycle production stopped in 1967 and the rights went to Innocenti, but not before several little screamers like the Bianchi Tonale were built.
This chain-drive overhead cam single was a 175cc four stroke engine, which put power through a 4-speed transmission. In 1956, a Bianchi Tonale built and modified by Alessandro Colombo won the Giro d’Italia, the Milano Taranto, and broke a mile record (with a special fairing by Nardi)!
This specific Bianchi Tonale is nearly original – it has had upgrades from a later model bike, including full width brake drums and alloy rims. There aren’t many details, however this owner currently owns another Tonale, and has sold at least one before in the past.
