1958 BMW RS54 Tribute

In Custom, Germany by AbhiLeave a Comment

In 1954, BMW offered a limited run of production racers to the public under the “Rennsport” (RS) name. Just 24 examples of the RS54 were built, and nowadays you’ll be spending well north of $100k to get a quality one. Here’s your chance to get a fun tribute for much less money.

I won’t waste your time getting too in depth on the RS54 considering what’s for sale here isn’t a real one, but you can check out this listing on Bonhams for an actual example to get more of the history. Highlights include 45 horsepower, 286 pounds of weight, forged Mahle pistons, Amal-Fischer TT carbs, Earles forks, and tremendous exclusivity.

It’s unclear exactly how this bike started – the seller mentions both a R50 and a R69S in the description but he eventually says “too many details to list. Send those questions over.” He adds that it has a racing cam, upgraded pistons, “hand built” motor and gearbox, handmade aluminum tank, custom seat, custom Earles forks, and the subframe from a short wheelbase BMW of the time. I’d definitely like to see more details but it’s a cool looking tribute and it looks like it’s already met reserve.
