Post Listing Update: This Rumi did not get any interest at the opening ask of $14,999.
Rumi started building two-wheelers after WWII in direct response to Italy’s need for cheap transportation. The man in charge of two-wheel design (Donnino Rumi) was a sculptor, and you could see that in several of his designs – such as the Formichino scooter or this Junior.
The Junior was introduced in the spring of 1955 with a new frame and a swingarm suspension – but it was the styling (and the twin motor) that truly differentiated it from a slew of other two-stroke singles built by the other Italian manufacturers like Benelli, Motobi, Parilla, and more. Aluminum was used extensively in the majority of the body, the swingarm, chain guard, and more. By 1957 Rumi’s focus shifted away from motorcycles due to a large military contract, and by ’62 the company was done producing two-wheelers.
This example (VIN: 1015) was acquired by the seller over a decade ago because he liked the styling, and he claims that he’s kept it in excellent original condition though there are three main flaws – two dents in the gas tank (one on the top, one on the bottom), and a broken cylinder fin. The seller has just completed a round-the-world bike trip that took him 6 years and he’s letting this bike go to replenish his bank account. Annoyingly, it is not clear if this Rumi is currently a runner or not.
