Built by Phelon and Moore between ’59 and ’66, the Panther Model 120 was an upgrade of their previous Model 100 – but unfortunately the upgrade earned a reputation for being less reliable. Competition advanced quicker than the Panther did, and the model was killed after only about 2,500 were built.
The Model 120 has a purpose built sidecar chassis with a three point mounting system, and there was even an optional trailer with towbar. The engine was named the “sloper” and was a 650cc single that was bored out 1mm from the Model 100, yielding 28 horsepower. Unfortunately, this put more strain on the crankcase and main bearings, leading to reliability issues. Interestingly enough, Phelon & Moore went under receivership in 1962, but they had so many spare parts that production continued until they ran out of parts in ’66. This specific Panther Model 120 has 15,595 miles on it and is in excellent shape. All mechanical aspects work great, and it hasn’t been restored in it 55 years of life. You’ll also get plenty of spares, including a nearly complete engine, and over 100 pounds of parts from a salvage yard.
