Powered by a 250cc two stroke, the Super Sabre was the top of the line Zundapp at the time.
The US importer was Berliner, and in a ’57 ad in Cycle Magazine they called it “the world’s fastest standard machine in its class” with features like “adjustable swingarm rear suspension, hydraulic shock absorbers, short stroke 6.5 to 1 compression ratio, over 17 horsepower, approximately 80 mph top speed, 100W generator, and 18″ wheels.” They also touted vaguer details like “large brakes, dual sponge seat, western handlebars, and a fast throttle.” Colors that year were black, brick red, and metallic blue, and a “Scramblers Kit” was available with 16″ wheels, knobby tires, a skid plate, and shorter exhaust.
The seller of this example says he found it in a motorcycle museum that closed in Bakersfield, California – it was last registered in 1977. It’s said to run alright but it will need a battery and a spark plug, plus the seat is not original.
