Named in honor of an award at a speed trials (BSA literally received a Gold Star award) in 1937 the Gold Star was introduced as a 500 CC single in 1938. A 350 CC variant was added along the way and the model continued to 1963. One of the most successful motorcycles on the track and in the showroom in the history of English motorcycling, it was certainly BSA’s most successful model.

The 1960 BSA Gold Star used a 499 CC air cooled single cylinder overhead valve motor that produced 42 HP and pushed it through a 4 speed transmission and a wet clutch for a top speed of 110 MPH. The frame was light and strong, the brakes good and a total weight of 380 LBS made for a very rideable motorcycle.
